Dr. Jemma Helfman has worked with children, adolescents and their families for 20 years. She specializes in selective mutism and believes that early intervention is key to success. When meeting with children individually, Dr. Helfman uses games and activities to make the sessions engaging and fun.
Dr. Helfman uses structured behavioural interventions to “transfer speech” using “fade-ins”. Once progress is being seen in sessions, Dr. Helfman consults with schools and parents to ensure the intervention is pushed out into school and the community.
Dr. Helfman completed her doctorate in clinical psychology in London. She has extensive training and experience in selective mutism. Having previously lived in Toronto, she currently practices in the UK and in Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Helfman is owner of The Feelings Place and director of Confident Kids Camp, Toronto, a one-week intensive camp for children with selective mutism. Dr. Helfman and her team in Toronto have helped hundreds of children with selective mutism make positive gains.
Dr. Helfman sees clients online and in person in Buckhurst Hill, Essex. She can also offer home and school visits when deemed appropriate or community practices in your local area (travel fees apply).
